Founding Engineer — Early-Stage Consumer AI Startup, Hybrid
Product: an assistant that operates inside a user's logged-in browser and reaches users through web, SMS and iOS from one shared backend.
- Improved a vision-language browser agent from 73.3% to 95.6% on a fixed 45-episode MiniWoB++ set through seven paired A/B experiments with exact McNemar testing; retained three wins, reverted four candidates and added a regression test for every retained change.
- Completed each 45-episode arm on a cost-efficient 32B vision-language model at approximately $0.12 to $0.16, producing the gain through perception and control engineering rather than model spend.
- Established a pooled WebVoyager baseline of 16/46 graded outcomes on a fixed 25-task slice and tested three architecture candidates under a hard MiniWoB++ non-regression gate.
- Improved a CAPTCHA-blocked flow from four wasteful failures to four clean human handoffs and recorded the result as an architecture requirement rather than presenting it as a benchmark win.
- Diagnosed transport races, WebSocket fragmentation, hardcoded surface routing and focus-stealing extension behaviour; restored automation in logged-in Chrome through Manifest V3 and CDP with up to three concurrent jobs.
- Designed a versioned /v1 REST API with Clerk authentication and fail-closed adapters for a shared iOS and web backend; supported an iOS screen-by-screen port with 140 tests passing.
- Built an LLM-first Twilio SMS workflow with send budgets, consolidated check-ins, verified-phone binding and one shared job pipeline with browser automation.
- Reworked the Next.js, React and Tailwind dashboard across two breakpoints and two themes while maintaining 291 passing tests, then configured Clerk, Railway, Supabase, Vercel, Expo/EAS and Twilio production services.
